They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression. I think that’s true and in today’s all-online world, you have a very small window to make that impression. That’s why I always wear a sport coat to online networking meetings. Sometimes even a tie. Yep, even if I’m wearing shorts and flip flops.
Why? Well, I’m there for business. I’m networking. I’m trying to convince people that I’m a professional and not only will I handle their business with the utmost professionalism but their referrals as well. That’s also why very early on in this “special COVID time” I ordered a nice room divider online. So the background behind me is clean and undistracting.
The old adage goes “dress for the job you want not the one you have.” If the job you want is being someone’s vendor, dress like it!
